Knowing vs doing

Jul 12, 2022

Hello ladies, and welcome to podcast 59. I am so excited to do this podcast for you today, but before we start, have you signed up for the August group coaching program? The enrollment is officially open, so, so many of you have been asking about it. So many of you have been thinking about joining, so this is your time to join.

So you've been listening to my podcast, reading my emails, and this is the time to actually take action on it. And if you would like to sign up, or if you'd like to book a free consult, then make sure you go to my website, www.amruticoaching.com/group and you can find out all the information. Okay.

So this brings us nicely onto our topic for today. And it's the difference between knowing something and doing something. So the reason why I wanted to bring this podcast to you today is because most of my before they became my clients were consumers. So most professionals are. Consumers, they tend to consume a lot of information.

They tend to think that they need to research something more. They need to learn more before they can take action. And it's to do with the perfectionistic tendencies that we tend to have. We need to do it perfectly. So I need to learn more about it so that I can do it perfectly.

What's really important is that we can't just listen to something and then just be able to do it. Our brain thinks that yeah, you just listen to something and then we'll be able to do it, but that's just not how it works. When you are just listening to content or listening and learning, but not putting it into practice, what's really going on is that your brain is tricking you into thinking you are taking some sort of action that you are dealing with it, but it is very easy to keep consuming, to keep learning more, to keep listening to this podcast and not actually doing anything about it.

because if you are listening to this podcast and you haven't gotten to the goal that you want to get to, it's not because you haven't got the, content or the learning. You've listened to all the podcasts. It's because you are not putting it into practice. And there is a difference between knowing and actually putting it into practice.

Right. So think about when you're learning a new skill, I'm gonna give the example of doing a dance. You can watch a video. and learn the moves that way, but that doesn't mean that you are gonna be able to fully do the dance exactly how the person is showing you in the video. So I'll give an example. Rick used to teach me how to dance for, weddings or like a special occasion.

And he would show me a video of him doing it. Now that wasn't enough for me to fully know the. I had to learn the steps I had to watch the video and then keep fine tuning it. And I remember this one dance that we did and he used to tell me, I want people to think that instead of me being the professional dancer, cuz Rick dances professionally, he wanted people to think that I was the professional dancer.

I was thinking, oh my gosh, that's a lot of pressure, but it took grit. Like we practice every single evening and it was even after a long day in the hospital, cuz I was practicing as a doctor then and I would do the dance and he would fine tune it. And then I would. think about there's some moves that I found easy.

And then there were some that I found hard and I would then focus on practicing the ones that I found hard. And there was space for actually watching the video again and consuming that content, but consuming the content on its own and just watching the video on its own would not actually help me do the.

So I would watch the video and then put it into practice. I would keep practicing it, try different ways and then find the way that worked for me. And this would be the same thing with learning any new skill, really to build any new habit. So say riding a bike is the thing that we're talking about.

You can't just watch someone riding a bike on the road and then say, yeah, I could do. when you're first learning how to ride a bike, you would stumble you'll fall. You'll probably fall a hundred times. I remember when I was teaching Vivaan how to ride a bike, he would get up. He would watch his dad ride a bike and think, oh, I can do that.

And then he would get up. He would fall he would stumble. He would then get up again. He'd try a slightly different way, then he'd fall and he'd stumble and then he'd watch it again and be like, oh, how is he doing it? Let me think. Can I try it like that? Then he would get up and he'd be able to go a little bit further, but then he would fall.

So it was a practice. He would watch his dad riding a bike and then he would try himself and he would try and get the balance. And he would notice that, oh, when I do this, that's when I tend to fall. So I'm gonna try it this way next time. So that's what it is. When you are learning a new skill, you are watching something you're consuming the content, but then you are actually putting it into practice.

You are tweaking. you are thinking, okay, this is the bit that I struggle with the most. So I'm gonna practice that bit. Right. But most of us high achieving women are, we're just so hard on ourselves. We think that we should be able to do all the things we think we should have been able to just listen to the podcast and be able to do all the things that AMRI talks about on the podcast.

But why? Because no, one's actually taught you and put it into practice for you. No, one's tweaked it for you. Right. So I noticed this coming up for me during my last certification. So just a quick celebration, firstly, I am now an advanced, deep dive coach, so fun. So as you all know, I'm a doctor, so I've got my medical degree.

And as you know, I've also got a psychology degree and then I got certified as a life and weight loss coach with the life coach school. And then a few months later I did an advanced weight loss certification. only for, life coach school coaches. And then, because I loved gaining this knowledge, I was like, I want to be the coach for my people who has all the knowledge and helps them put it into practice.

So. I spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on these certifications so that I could be the best coach for you, because I know that when I'm able to support you to the highest level, you are able to support yourselves to the highest level. So anyway, I wanted to get to the root. Cause of the problem quicker and offer even more impactful coaching because when coaching in a group, I wanted to make sure that everyone got exactly what they came for.

So that's why I decided to become a deep dive coach because it helps you dive deeper into the root of the problem much quicker. So I decided to get the advanced, deep dive certification with Bev, Aaron, and this was also open to life coach school coaches. So when I first started the high achiever in me was.

Wanting to know all the concepts, as soon as I got there and wanting me to be an expert at them, even though I hadn't practiced them yet. Right. But I was just expecting myself to know, because the high achiever in me was like, I've done all of these things. I'm good at, learning things.

So I should know all of this by now, but my mentor said to me, why would I know I've just been taught. It takes practice and honing of these skills, right? So after an intense four to five months, I actually got certified. But during this time I was honing my skills on each coaching call. I was practicing these skills.

I was submitting calls to get feedback. I was submitting written coaching to get feedback. I was critiquing my own calls so that I could learn from. I was submitting myself evaluation with my calls and with my written coaching so that I could get even more feedback. So I spent a lot of time, energy and effort looking at.

How can I tweak my coaching? How can I make it even more impactful? And only then whilst learning all the concepts of the deep dive certification was I able to keep tweaking and keep honing my skills? and now I'm so proud to say that I am an advanced, deep dive coach, but it wasn't easy. It took me learning the content and me tweaking and then going back to the content and tweaking and going back to the content and applying it to me and practicing.

and then realizing, okay, this is something that I struggle a little bit with, and this is something that I find easy. Let me focus on the things that I struggle with and I will get better and better at tweaking that. So this is the same thing in weight loss, right? Especially those of you who are my raving fans of the podcast.

You may have heard a thing on the podcast once or twice, and think, I know. You may have heard me talk about the concepts or the six step process very often, but putting it prac into actual practice is a whole new level. That's how you can actually change a habit. That's how you can change a habit that you have been forming over your whole lifetime.

It takes time, effort and tweaking alongside the learning, but the learning alone is not enough. You need to put it into practice. So, this is why I invite you to join the group coaching program. This is where we actually do the learning and we put it into practice. So as you know, it is a six month group coaching program that has been designed to provide you with the learning and the teaching alongside putting it all into practice.

So we have two amazing live group coaching calls every week. And this is where the beauty of the coaching actually happens. So people can change their entire lives in one call. So I may point something out and they notice how this has been showing up in other areas of their life as well. So for example, on the last group coaching call, one of my clients was not planning her food as much as she would have liked to.

And when we got into it, it was because she wanted to be perfect at it. She'd always been the good student and wanted to get it right. And it was because when she was a child, when she received praise, that's how she got what she wanted. So when she wanted a toy, she knew that when she actually listened to her parents and was the good student or the good child, or received praise for something, that's when she would be rewarded.

She equated following the rules with being safe because that's how she created safety for herself in her childhood. So of course she wouldn't want to plan when she had a big, long set of rules about planning. And if she was that good student, then she would have to stick to them. Right. Some of the rules for her were this needs to be done seven days in advance.

It needs to be done exactly. Following all the rules. So when she had this set of rules about planning, of course, she had to climb up this big mountain before she could actually start planning. So when we were aware of this, she had this realization and I told her to break all the rules and actually find one thing that she could work on and what she decided to do.

making one plan for one minute. The next day. Now, initially her brain brought up a lot of thoughts about this isn't enough. I can't do this. This is not enough. It's not gonna work, but she did do it. And it changed everything for her because she realized that what she was doing is actually being a rule follower and that was impacting so many other areas of her life.

So honestly, this one session changed everything for. So imagine several people getting coached per call two calls per week. That is a major transformation. And also in the group coaching program, I teach you how to gain transformation from other people getting coached as well, so that you can take on the coaching for yourself and apply it to you.

so some things like deep rooted beliefs may take a bit longer and that's totally okay because we just keep chipping away at the old beliefs and we provide new realistic and believable ways of thinking that you actually believe because you have to believe it to actually feel a certain way to take the action.

So we find something that you actually believe that you can change your thinking to. So just coming to the qu and we're all watching the replays, we'll change your entire life and you'll lose a hell of a lot of weight in the process. But because I like to provide you a lot of value and make sure that everyone gets exactly what they came for.

In my programs. I also have a free private Facebook group where you can get daily written coaching and you may want to post daily, or you may want to post once a week. You get to decide. But if you want to post daily, you will get daily coaching and don't underestimate written coaching. One question is often enough to really get you thinking and change the way you're thinking about.

It has revealed so, so much to so many of my clients. And so often if my clients can't come to the calls, they will submit for written coaching and I will coach them. So basically you get to work on your mind, even between your calls and you have direct access to me. And so this really is the best program in the world for my people.

Then on top of that, you get a library of videos and worksheets in five months of module. And these teach you the ins and outs of mind management for weight loss, which has been that missing piece in your weight loss journey. So you'll be learning loads of new concepts. And this is. Why they're in video form so that you can go back and watch them over and over again.

And when you first watch something you're only gonna take in 20%. So the fact that you can go in and watch them over over again, will allow you to integrate it at a much higher level. And also you get the iconic mind and body food planner. And trust me, this is epic. I use it daily and I'm so grateful to my, past self for creating it.

Because it's actually transformed my own relationship with myself. Now. I thought as a coach, I had a really good relationship with myself anyway, but the last three months have really reinforced that. And I also want to practice what I preach. So I'm actually doing the work that I give you all. And it's like, you want a coach who actually practices what she preaches, because that's when I know the ins and outs of every issue that you are gonna be bringing to me.

and even if I may not have experienced it myself, I will be able to guide you. so this round, I'm also doing a live event and that's gonna be on 7th of August. And this is so that we can do all the main teaching workshopping and setting you up for success. And then the remaining six months, that's where we, continue the tweaking and the practicing, and we keep learning new concepts that we can keep practicing as well.

So my main name of the live event is to make it so valuable that people sign up literally just to attend that virtual event. So you will not be disappointed. So listen, the time is now. You have consumed enough content. You have listened to my podcast. You have watched my videos. You've read my emails and my posts, and now you're ready to put it into practice.
